About Emirates

Based in Dubai, this airline is a subsidiary of The Emirates Group and is the largest airline in the Middle East region. With a commanding operation of 3.600 flights per week, it operates to more than 150 cities in 80 countries across the world making it one of the flag carriers of UAE. It is also the second largest in the world in terms of kilometers flown per freight tonne.

Brief History

Emirates Airlines was launched in the year 1985 with its first flight from Dubai to Karachi and very soon included destinations such as Cairo, Colombo, and Dhaka among others. Emirates Airlines expanded quickly over time establishing itself among the world's leading international airlines. Its first year of operation was so successful that Gulf Air's earnings were projected to have dropped by 56%. By decision, Emirates Airline has chosen to remain outside of all three global airline alliances. The airline believes this is a "hindrance" to growth because alliance partners' agreement will be required in order to shift and respond to market changes.

Hub

This airline connects the world to, and through, its hub at Dubai International Airport. Emirates is famous for operating the largest ever Boeing 777 and Airbus A380 fleets in the world, with 3,600 plus flights every week.

What are the aircraft owned by Emirates?

To restrict maintenance costs while focusing on carrying numerous passengers to busy destinations in one go, this airline predominantly operates the Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 family. Below is an overview of the 264 planes of Emirates:

  • 119 Airbus A380-800s
  • 144 Boeing 777s
  • One VIP A319 ACJ (Airbus Corporate Jet)

Although this airline is known for being the largest operator of superjumbo which is 45% of the entire fleet, not all A380s are built the same way. With constant innovation and unique configurations to suit routes and shifting trends, Emirates breaks it into the following:

  • 3 four-class A380s (14 seats in first, 76 in business, 56 in premium economy, and 338 in economy)
  • 15 two-class A380s (58 seats in business and 557 in economy)
  • 111 three-class A380s (14 seats in first, 76 in business, and 426 in economy)

We are well aware that the A380 tends to get all the attention, however, Emirates' 144 Boeing 777s constitute the backbone of the fleet. This consists of both passenger planes and special freighters that fly for SkyCargo. The 777-300ER, 777-200LR, and 777F are the three versions that make up the fleet. To know about a proper breakdown of the Boeing 777s owned by this airline, read below:

  • Ten B777-200LR aircraft, with 38 business and 264 economy seats
  • Ten B777 freighters and seventeen B777-300ERs with 42 business and 386 economy seats each
  • There are nine B777-300ERs with six 'Gamechanger' first class seats, 42 business class seats, and 306 economy seats.
  • 99 B777-300ERs with eight first-class seats, 42 business-class seats, and 310 economy seats

While this air carrier is popular for its widebody-only airline, it does have a narrowbody too. The A319 ACJ is a VIP aircraft designed to transport the world’s elite passengers. It is structured in a luxurious layout with a bedroom, 10 first-class suites, and living rooms for travelers.

Future Plans

An airline such as Emirates emphasizes on planning for its fleet and has tens of billions of dollars of planes on order. Currently, with orders for 205 Boeing 777X family aircraft (which includes 777-8 and 777-9s), 35 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft (20 x 787-8 and 15 x 787-10), and 65 Airbus A350-900 aircraft, this carrier is looking to strengthen their fleet further.

Skywards Program: Since Emirates has excelled to such an extent in terms of amenities and luxuries offered to its passengers, its original reward program lost its value. However, after a lot of rehashes, Emirates has come up with a miles program that offers four tiers- blue, silver, gold, and platinum that can be easily earned as they have tie-ups with all major transfer partners.

Pampers young travelers: Kids flying in this airline have their selection of inflight entertainment which includes 50 plus Disney films and numerous TV channels. They also offer a special pair of headphones that are specifically designed for children. Apart from the option of pre-ordering special meals for little kids, it also provides baby food as well as snazzy little belt bags, duffels, and backpacks full of toys to keep them occupied throughout the flight.

Top-notch Food for all classes: It is a known fact that Business and First-Class passengers enjoy multi-course meals, however, passengers traveling in the economy also get their multi-course menu. With appetizers, mains and deserts in a tray with actual cutlery, it also includes crackers, cheese and chocolates to elevate the dining experience.
